    Hair loss advice programme given government grant

    A charity set up by hairdresser Trevor Sorbie to help train hairdressers and NHS staff on how to help people who have lost their hair through cancer treatment, has been awarded a government grant.

    A report commissioned by hair loss treatment, Viscera, says that more needs to be done to understand the emotional impact that hair loss has on male and female sufferers.

    Shampoo could reverse the effects of grey hair

    Scientists have revealed that they may have discovered the cause of grey hair and could be able to develop a shampoo to reverse it.

    Researchers at University College London have found that people may suffer from a disorder that stops them from being able to recognise hairstyles on people.

    No vitamin D advantage for bald men


    Scientists at New Zealand's Auckland University  have concluded that bald men do not absorb any more vitamin D from the sun than men with full heads of hair. 

    Led by Dr Mark Bolland, researchers studied 296 middle-aged and older men in an attempt to discover more about why older men commonly have higher levels of vitamin D than older women.

    Gambex, a lice treatment shampoo commonly used in South Africa, has come under fire for potentially causing the hair loss condition alopecia.

    Hair loss affecting younger men


    Hair loss is becoming prevalent amongst younger age groups, according to experts. Male pattern baldness used to be associated with middle age, but experts are noticing that men 20 to 30 are becoming the majority facing the problem.

    Alopecia support group established in Birmingham

    Two Midlands women have set up a support group for people who suffer from the hair loss condition alopecia. The group meets regularly in Sutton Coldfield, Kingstanding and Birmingham city centre.
