German hair-loss expert Dr Adolf Klenk has made some recommendations on how men can try to prevent hair loss once they have established if and when they may become bald using his Baldness Calculator.
Klenk says that different people treat their baldness in different ways depending on the severity and the cause. Dr Klenk says that stress is a major cause of male-pattern baldness. He explains, "Stress can lead to an increase of hair loss because the hair root is one of the most active tissues in the body…If you took all the hair on your scalp to make one long continuous hair, it would grow at about 1.6 metres per hour, so keep yourself as stress-free as possible to keep those hairs growing."
Klenk also says that diet can have an impact on hair-loss, claiming that men who live on fast food tend to become bald because their diet lacks the nutrients the follicles need to thrive.
Caffeine, when applied as a special topical solution, can help to prevent testosterone attacking hair follicles, which leads to baldness. However, Klenk points out that drinking lots of coffee will not have the same effect.
