Thanks to a new treatment, people struggling with missing or patchy eyelashes can grow new, long and full lashes that will be the envy of their friends.

Thanks to a new treatment, people struggling with missing or patchy eyelashes can grow new, long and full lashes that will be the envy of their friends.

A US-based drug firm called Allergan, has developed a new treatment for people who have limited eyelash growth, but who have viable hair follicles, including people who have suffered with alopecia.

The treatment, called Latisse, is applied in the form of an eye-drop. It then works on the bottom lashes to make them grow longer and fuller.

The drug treatment is available on a prescription only basis and costs US$ 120 per month to buy. Doctors claim it should begin to make an impact within two months of use and that it may have some limited medical uses, as well as cosmetic.

Dr. Keith Carter, Professor and Ophthalmology expert, says it could be useful for some patients, "I think medical uses have some limitations but you may have some people who have injuries who have viable follicles but sparse growth."

The firm is now looking into the possibility that the drug could be applied to the scalp by help men suffering from male-pattern baldness.
